This one-hour Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course examines professional boundaries and unauthorized behaviours under Section 16 of the Code of Professional Conduct for College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants Licensees: SOR/2022-128 (Code). The course focuses on recognizing early warning signs of boundary erosion and applying structured strategies to prevent regulatory exposure.
Participants will explore:
Lending and borrowing prohibitions
Business transaction restrictions
Intimate relationship prohibitions
Practical corrective measures and documentation strategies
The course emphasizes that most boundary violations do not begin with intentional misconduct, but with subtle shifts in communication and emotional involvement. The course integrates the Code and Competency Framework expectations for both RCICs (Competency 6.5) and RISIAs (Competency 5.5).
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Interpret Section 16 of the Code regarding unauthorized behaviours.
Distinguish between permitted and prohibited financial and business interactions.
Recognize early warning signs of boundary crossings.
Participants must complete the course module followed by the course quiz in sequential order. The module must be completed before proceeding to the quiz. Completion of the course quiz is required in order to successfully complete the course.
